Men’s shed organisers on lookout for premises

-

A PROJECT dedicated to helping the bereaved cope with their loss across Halton is on the lookout for premises to use as a workshop.

Halton’s Men’s Shed was launched in September 2017 in Widnes, where it hires rooms at St John’s Church on Greenway Road.

Colin Chorley, project manager, said the group is now at a ‘crossroads’ as it needs to find somewhere to use as a workshop.

Halton’s Men’s Shed gives bereaved husbands, fathers, sons and others somewhere to put some purpose back in their life.

Colin said it has been shown to boost wellbeing and help those suffering from depression, bereavement, loneliness, isolation, poor diet, and poor mental health, while also offering somewhere simply to pursue hobbies and interests in a warm, safe and friendly environment.

It also meets every week as a social group to chat, drink coffee and tea and eat cake, and discuss how to develop the project.

Halton Men’s Shed also has its own allotment off Liverpool Road and it holds days out such as a trip on a narrow boat.

Colin said members would earn their keep.

He said: “We are at a cross roads as we have tried for the past two years to get ourselves a workshop to carry out light joinery and construction crafts.

“If anybody out there can offer us any type of workshop or unit to start with, we would be very grateful and we would be more than happy to carry out repairs to the building in return to a small rent.

“The men who attend are very skilled in many departments, we have our own insurance and tools and would be willing to consider anything on offer.”

The project was an offshoot of a scheme that was first launched at Halton Haven Hospice in Runcorn.
