‘No hard feelings’ says Towey as Morgan moves on

-

KEV Towey asserts he has no hard feelings towards former Liverpool striker Adam Morgan after the striker left Widnes to join Glenn Tamplin’s Romford without making an appearance.

The Whites returned to winning ways in midweek as they overcome Nantwich Town 6-5 in a thrilling Integro Cup tie.

Rhain Hellawell, Anointed Chukwu and George Webster helped Widnes into a 3-0 lead shortly after the halfhour mark.

Nantwich, however, produced a stunning comeback and found themselves leading 5-3 with 15 minutes remaining before goals from Jay Roberts, Hellawell and a stunning last-minute winner from Mike Burke ended an eight-game streak without victory.

Morgan, who featured in the Europa League for Liverpool in 2012, was cuptied for the clash but a deal with Romford, recently bought by multi-millionaire Tamplin, had already been struck.

The former Billericay Town boss promised to sign a complete new playing squad to keep bottom-club Romford in the Isthmian North and the 25-year-old became one of his first additions.

When asked about the deal, Towey refused to criticise Morgan, who had only arrived at Widnes at the end of October.

“Money talks, doesn’t it, let’s be honest,” he said. “The amount of money that’s being talked I defy anyone who says I wouldn’t do that.

“[Tamplin] has a job to do and he does it how he sees fit but with regards to Adam, totally, he has a family and we’re talking about non-league football.

“Every penny counts really. I’m sure every player sits in front of the manager and says it’s not about the money but ultimately it is.

“People can look at it and say no, it’s not, and there a few out there playing for their hometown club but long gone are those days. It’s purely about money now. It filters down from the top. It’s a vicious circle but it’s something we have to accept that is never going to go away.”
