RUNCORN manufactur­er Sandon Global has scooped the business of the year prize at the 2019 Halton Chamber Business Awards.

The high-tech producer of specialist equipment for the global printing industry is based in Manor Park and was among more than 400 companies and individual­s at the glitzy awards dinner at Halton Stadium on Friday, November 15, organised by Halton Chamber Of Commerce And Enterprise.

Widnes Vikings RLFC, who also sponsored one of the award categories, was presented with a special award for ‘investing in Halton’s future’, while Terri Kearney, of Nightstop, was named ‘ entreprene­ur of the year’.

Hardman Office & Commercial Cleaning took top prize for ‘ outstandin­g customer service’, and the Stick ‘n’ Step charity became ‘social enterprise of the year’ the ‘new business of the year’ title was handed to Octave Design Services.

Val Allen, Halton Chamber chairwoman, said: “This year’s business awards have been the biggest and best yet in Halton.

“We attracted a record number of entries and tickets for the event sold out weeks in advance.

“The evening has shone a light on some amazing innovative work taking place in the borough.

“Everyone shortliste­d for an award is a winner.”

Rachael Owen, Halton Chamber chief executive, said: “If this evening is a barometer of the health of the business community in Halton, we have much to celebrate.

“The quality of entries and the achievemen­ts of entreprene­urs in this region is incredibly encouragin­g and uplifting.

“Successful businesses create lots of jobs so a thriving local economy is great news for all of us.”

The event’s principal sponsor DCBL, a national debt recovery firm and star of Channel Five’s ‘ Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away!’ provided the main speakers.

The firm sponsored the business of the year award and the ‘rising star high growth’ category won by Widnes firm Millwood Manufactur­ing, which specialise­s in creating products for the healthcare, pet, household and automotive industries.
