Academy sides both concede eight in defeats

-

THE Wild Academy teams had a disappointing weekend, as both the Under 11s and Under 15s lost their home games in the latest junior hockey double bill at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

The Under 11s team lost 0–8 to a very highly-experienced Billingham Stars Under 11 side, while the Under 15s lost out 3–8 to local rivals Deeside Dragons Under 15s.

The Under 15s Team put in a battling performance and were particularly unlucky not to get more out of this game against the league leaders.

Unfortunately they allowed the away side to get too far ahead before they managed to get going.

The visitors opened the scoring in the fourth minute and were 3–0 up at the first period break.

They were 6–0 up at the second period break and scored their seventh goal before the Wild finally managed to open their own account.

A well-taken hat-trick by team captain and top scorer for the season so far Liam Eaton between 36 and 40 minutes, gave the score some respectability but the Wild youngsters were not able to build on this third period fightback and Deeside scored their eighth goal on 42 minutes.

This victory saw the Dragons extend their 100% start to the season and they remain top of the league table with 6 wins from 6 starts. Widnes are third with 2 wins and 2 defeats from their four games to date.

The Under 15s are in action again this Saturday, November 30, when they make the relatively short trip to North Wales to play the return game against the Dragons Under 15s – face off 6.30pm.

The Academy Under 9s Team are away in Telford the same day to take part in a multiteam cross-ice tournament.
