U18s grab debut league win by taking charge from the off

DEESIDE DRAGONS U18S ............... 5 WIDNES WILD ACADEMY U18S .... 8 the lead less than 90 seconds into the game with a goal from team captain Sam Anderson. Anderson scored his second goal on five minutes and a goal from Tristan Grimshaw – making his debut in Widnes colours – on 17 minutes made the score 3-0 to Widnes in the first period break.

The Wild dominance continued in the second period, with goals from Rory Sillery, Anderson again and then a strike from Luke Mullarkey. Deeside eventually found the back of the net with just 10 seconds to go in the period, leaving the score after 40 minutes of play at a very healthy looking 6-1 for Widnes.

The Dragons fought back in the third period and scored three unanswered goals to pull the score back to 6-4.

However, the Wild youngsters stuck to their game plan and two further goals from Sam Anderson – his fourth and fifth of the game – helped relieve the mounting tension.

Deeside scored again in the last minute but it was too late by then and the Wild Under 18s were able to celebrate the first ever league victory of their short history.

THE Wild Academy Under-13 team came away from East Lancashire with a league point after a 2-2 draw away to Blackburn Under

13s team on Saturday. Widnes took the lead after three and a half minutes with a goal from Jared Knowles and the score remained 0-1 right into the third period.

A goal for Blackburn on 34 minutes pulled the hosts level but Widnes edged back into the lead just 16 seconds later, with a second goal from Knowles. A second equaliser for Blackburn with 1 minute 40 seconds left to play, tied the game and the score remained 2-2 at the final buzzer.
