MPs’ gratitude to electors

- Derek Twigg MP Halton Mike Amesbury MP Weaver Vale

IWOULD like to thank the people of Halton for re-electing me as their Member Of Parliament in last Thursday’s General Election.

It is a honour and a privilege to be able to represent the community I am from in Parliament.

I will continue to work hard on behalf of my constituents and ensure that I am accessible and listen to the concerns of local people, I will be a strong voice for Halton in Parliament.

In addition, I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks for the many messages of sympathy and support I and my family have received following the loss of my wife Mary, they have been a great comfort to me and my children.

I wish my constituents a Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.

Yours faithfully

● Please allow me to express through your letters page my sincerest

● thanks to the people of the Weaver Vale for once again returning me as their MP.

The decision to re-elect me was a humbling show of faith and something I do not and will never take for granted.

It has been a true honour to represent this remarkable and varied constituency for the last two-and-a-half years.

I’ve tried at every step to be a true constituency MP, someone who puts you first.

I’ve taken on over 9,000 pieces of casework in that time, carried out more than 200 surgeries, attended more than 450 public meetings.

We’ve achieved a lot together over the last couple of years but there’s still so much to do.

Over the lifetime of this new Parliament, regardless of whether you voted for me or not, I will give everything to represent you to the best of my ability and to be there for you, should you need my help and support with an issue.

I’ll continue to fight for more funding for schools, for social care and social security, for justice for leaseholders and WASPI women, and to keep our NHS out of the hands of the private sector.

I will press for this Government to have a more robust response to the climate emergency, get more bobbies on the beat and make improvements to both our rail and bus networks. Looking at the national picture it was a devastating election for my party and going forward I will be playing my part in trying to get to the root causes of why it happened.

It’s essential we listen and learn from our defeat, the biggest since 1935.

Since austerity began, we’ve seen foodbank use go up in our constituency and many vital services local services cut to the bone and many will fear what the next five years of a Tory majority Government will bring.

Prime Minister Johnson has promised investment in the North, despite clearly not doing so over the last decade.

I along with Labour colleagues in the North will hold him to that pledge at every opportunity.
