Motorists banned for drink-driving
APOLICE drinkdrive crackdown in Runcorn and Widnes over the space of one weekend has resulted in a string of lengthy bans.
Four motorists who breath-tested positive for alcohol and one who failed to provide a specimen were all handed disqualifications at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court on December 24 after being caught between December 6 and 8.
Ian Daley, 40, of Eversley, Hough Green, Widnes, was fined £450 and banned for three years after being caught driving a Peugeot van at 45 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath (ug/dl). The legal limit is 35 ug/dl.
He can reduce his disqualification by 36 weeks if he completes an accredited course.
Daley was also told to pay £117 in Victim surcharge and costs.
Nicky Cole, 42, of Bridgeway West, Windmill Hill, Runcorn was banned for 23 months after being caught behind the wheel of a Dacia Duster on Chichester Close on December 7.
She measured 104 ug/ dl.
Cole can reduce her ban by 23 weeks by completing accredited course.
She must also do 40 hours unpaid work and pay £175 in victim surcharge and prosecution costs.
Driving is off limits for a Runcorn driver for the next 17 months after she was caught driving a green Nissan Micra on December 8 after drinking too much alcohol.
Vanessa Dowman, 36, of Sycamore Road, tested for alcohol at 83 ug/dl, more than twice the 35 ug/dl limit.
Dowman was banned for 17 months, reduced by 18 weeks if she completes an accredited course.
She was also fined £280 and ordered to pay £117 in victim surcharge and costs.
Refusing to provide a sample in Runcorn has resulted in a 12-month driving ban for a Stockport driver.
Rhys Barber, 18, of Ullswater Road, Handforth, can reduce the disqualification by three months if he completes an approved course.
The incident was on December 7.
Barber must also complete 100 hours unpaid work, and pay a £90 victim surcharge plus £85 prosecution costs.
Dominic Catterall, 29, of Shepherds Row, Castlefields, Runcorn, pleaded guilty on December 24 to having 45 ug/dl of alcohol in his breath.
Court papers said he was stopped driving a Honda Civic on Ellesmere Street on December 7.
He can reduce his ban by three months if he completes an approved course.
Catterall was fined £300 and told to pay £117 in victim surcharge and prosecution costs.
All defendants pleaded guilty.
