Faith week a success
THE History and RE department at OBA have once again teamed up with neighbouring primary school Murdishaw West to host a number of exciting lessons based on Inter Faith Week.
The partnership work which aims to deepen pupils respect and understanding of the traditions that are throughout the UK and the world has now been running successfully for a number of years and once again an amazing few lessons were shared between both schools.
Students in Years 3-6 from MWCP visited the academy over the course of the week and experienced learning about how to use the Bible and the Qur’an, while one year group studied the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the founding of Islam.
The students had loads of fun acting out the stories of the Bible and making a person-less comic strip of the Prophet; students had discovered that in Islam drawing the Prophet was disrespectful, so all the children choose to not draw any people at all.
Head of history and RE, Sean McGlory, said: “The students were up for any challenge and wholeheartedly got involved.
“Everyone really enjoyed the lessons and the teachers cannot wait for next year’s interfaith week.”
Stacy Palmer, teacher at Murdishaw West, said: “The children really enjoy visiting the local high school to participate in the partnership lessons and it’s a great opportunity for them to learn from RE specialist teachers.
“The lessons are fun and engaging and well received by the children.
“Thanks again to OBA for allowing us to take part in the Interfaith week lessons year after year.”
