Apprentices focus of business breakfast
IT was a time to recognise and applaud apprenticeship success stories across the Borough at Halton’s Number One Breakfast meeting – the ‘1stuesday’ Breakfast Networking meeting held on February 4.
As Halton businesses have identified some significant skills gaps, an aging workforce and it was Apprenticeship Week, Halton Chamber decided to go ‘on the move’ and hold February’s ‘1stuesday’ meeting at Riverside College, Cronton Campus.
With over 60 local business leaders attending, they heard from several local award-winning apprentices, met current students searching for their next role and heard from local organisations that are currently using the Apprenticeship Programme to secure new talent, support succession planning and develop the skills required to meet future demand.
Joe Keegan from the Growth Platform sponsored the event talked and presented the support available to businesses around Apprenticeships.
Guests also had the opportunity to take a tour of the college’s impressive vocational resources and admire their newly opened, extremely impressive Playhouse.

Val Allen, chair of Halton Chamber and governor of Riverside College, hosted the event and said: “It was great to be joined this morning by so many, enthusiastic students; most of whom experienced business networking for the first time.”
Val explained: “This is a great network, always well attended, open and ready to do business.
“I’ve seen a lot of connections being made here today and a number of businesses are now looking at apprenticeship having gained a better understanding of how they can be used to address skills gaps and an ageing workforce.”
This vibrant network is open to all businesses, chamber members and non-members, with more details available on Halton Chamber’s web site https:// www.haltonchamber.co.uk
Next month’s 1stuesday event is at The Heath on March 3 and welcomes Steve Rotheram, Liverpool City Region’s Metro Mayor.
