Game time key to Kris’s move

KRIS Holt returned to Runcorn Linnets in search of more game-time, according to Atherton Collieries assistant manager Rob Sadler.

Holt helped Linnets to NWCFL Premier Division promotion in 2018-19 but left last season to join West Didsbury & Chorlton.

The midfielder followed former team-mate and manager Brad Cooke to Atherton Collieries from West in December but has returned to the Millbank Stadium earlier this month.

“It was a difficult decision, but the right one for both parties. Those conversations aren’t enjoyable with someone I have an awful lot of time for,” Sadler said.

“Krissy’s game time has been limited but you need lads you can rely on and trust when you step into a role and that’s why it was a no-brainer to bring him with us.

“He would argue he hasn’t been given enough opportunities which is a fair comment but he needs to play and enjoy his football, and with the current squad we couldn’t guarantee him that.”

Holt started Linnets’ 2-1 defeat to Marske United on Saturday before the BetVictor North West Division season was suspended due to the coronavirus [Covid-19] pandemic.

The Northern Premier League released a statement on Monday calling a halt to the season.

The Premier League, Football League and National League had earlier suspended their campaign until April 3.

“The Northern Premier League has today decided, reluctantly, to suspend all fixtures until further notice in light of the escalating

Covid-19 outbreak,” an official release said.

“In consultation with the partners Eliteform, all NPL Football Academy fixtures have also been suspended until further notice.

“The NPL is well aware that clubs and fans need clarity around whether the 2019/20 season is to be suspended temporarily or permanently, and the full implications of either eventuality.

“The NPL will be working with the other Alliance Leagues and the Football Association, to assess the various options and to agree a way forward.

“As soon as we are able to, we will share that information with member clubs and their supporters.”
