Haven launches ‘People’s Pound’
HALTON Haven has launched a fundraising campaign to help it through the coronavirus pandemic.
The hospice is urging residents to donate the equivalent to £1 each for its ‘People’s Pound Fund’ in the hope of bringing in £127,000 to boost its coffers.
A Halton Haven spokesman said fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed and the cafe has shut, cutting off the supply of vital revenue. He said the People’s Pound Fund was an urgent response to the coronavirus crisis.
Karen Eden, Halton
Haven’s director of income, said: “As little as £1 from everyone in Halton and the surrounding area would give us a vital lifeline in these difficult times.
“We have been overwhelmed by messages of support, especially following the break-in we suffered on Thursday evening, and this is a way people can give us a real lift and relieve some of the financial pressure we are under.
“In the short term this money will be vital for us.
“We need to keep the doors open and our wonderful medical team providing round-the-clock care and compassion to the members of our community who need it most.
“One pound is less than half the price of a premium takeaway coffee. How useful would it be to put that money to good use and donate it to Halton Haven?”
She added: “Our community has always been there for us, and we’re confident local people will come through again during what are absolutely unprecedented circumstances.”
