Scrap cost of crossings

- Terry McArdle

I WOULD like to see ALL tolls FREE with immediate effect in the Liverpool City/ Mersey Region during this time coronavirus is upon us.

This includes the Mersey Gatway crossing. The Silver Jubilee Bridge should be opened during this stressful time.

I am disgusted with Merseyflow only just closing their call centre despite previous Government warnings to stay at least two metres apart, as many call centres do not have this much distance between operatives and they would probably be in contact with each other when changing shift etc.

The Kingsway Tunnel and Queensway Tunnel. Both these have given billions to Merseyside despite being paid for many times over.

Toll booths are still handling germ laden cash and passing virus between operators and users.

Cash in the baskets is still handled by people probably several times before banking and still virus laden.

Warrington Warburton Bridge – now free to use. This will enable key workers, key products and family member to help each other without the additional worry of finding these funds.

Warrington and Halton hospitals have stopped parking charges for a period also.

Extract from Warrington Worldwide – 21st March 2020.

“Patients, visitors and staff to both Warrington and Halton hospitals will not be charged for parking from noon today (Saturday) for an initial three month period.”

Announcing the news, Professor Simon Constable, chief executive said: “We recognise that these are very difficult times for our patients, their loved ones, our staff and their own families.”

Will these crossing tolls also be removed for the same reasons and on a similar time scale?
