New dates set for festival
THIS year’s Weaver Words Literature Festival has been postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus.
The celebration of all things wordy and wonderful was due to take place from April 29 to May 3.
It is now pencilled in to run from Wednesday, May 5, 2021, to Saturday, May 9, 2021.
This means the deadline for the FDR Law Flash Fiction Competition will be extended by 11 months to February 28, 2021.
Winners will be announced at next year’s festival.
The Great Weaver Words writing prize for children, sponsored by Frodsham and Helsby Rotary, will be judged next month as planned, and prizes awarded in a new ceremony to be arranged later this year.
Lynn Pegler, Weaver Words festival manager, said: “We are extremely disappointed we’ve had to postpone the literature festival but given the current health situation, we felt this was the only responsible course open to us.
“The intention is to move the whole programme forward by a year, subject to availability of speakers.
“We have deliberately extended the deadline for the Flash Fiction competition to be in line with the new festival dates in 2021.
“With everyone confined to their homes for weeks, perhaps this is an ideal time to try your hand at writing at a bite-sized story – only 300 words.
