OPEN UP OUR SCHOOLS

- Megan Smith P Bradshaw

I AM a concerned Nan and feel strongly about the decision to not allow primary schools to return.

If something is not done soon this problem will escalate.

It is a huge and difficult situation for school staff and the authorities, but will someone stop and consider the long-term effects on the little ones who had lost almost 10 weeks of education by June 1.

What about single parents? I know quite a number of parents/families who are experiencing big problems

Reopening schools will be a mammoth task, and health and safety must be a priority – but enough is enough.

I bet when they can return they will go on summer break for seven weeks.

Why can’t parents make their own decisions – they are their children, not the council’s – and what is wrong with the suggestion of smaller classes and staggered hours, even if it starts off with one or two days in lessons? Why can’t it be discussed?

If social distancing measures for people during this crisis haven’t sunk in by now, well, they never will!

In old terms, a metre is about three foot three inches, so a 6’6” door is a good gauge.

I’ve experienced many who are probably under one metre away from me and are clueless as to the dangers they face.

Imagine how close people will get if the present rule is changed to what I consider no distancing at all. One metre is about a normal (preCovid-19) space given to most in ordinary conversation, any closer and you are being almost intimate.

I believe the people advocating a metre are oblivious to the dangers or would do anything for money.
