Yob missile attacks

-

THUGS have been accused of leaving around four cars damaged with smashed windows and dents and bumps after throwing bottles and metal fence clips from a Runcorn overpass.

The Weekly News received a report from a Waterloo Road resident, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, who said unsupervised children aged between around five and 10 were launching the objects from the Silver Jubilee Bridge slip road onto the ground and vehicles below, raising fears someone could be hit and injured.

She said police had not attended and the security firm guarding the overhead road works site were not interested. Another resident, who also asked not to be named, said about four cars were damaged with smashed windows and bumps and dents, and that ward councillor Norman Plumpton-Walsh was looking into it.

A spokeswoman for Balfour Beatty, the construction contractor building the nearby

Runcorn Station Quarter roundabout, said the incident did not involve its site. Residents were quick to clean up the debris and no photographs have been provided to support their claims. Police have urged residents with any information to call them on 101 or visit www.cheshire.police.uk to report it online.

A police spokeswoman said: “A report was received at 2pm on Saturday, June 13 regarding a group of people throwing bottles from Silver Jubilee Bridge. Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Patrols are also being stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.”

Sergeant Phil Brown, of Runcorn Beat Team, said: “At this stage this is believed to be an isolated incident of antisocial behaviour.

“If anyone has information about the incident on Saturday 13 June that could assist with our enquiries is asked to call 101, quoting IML 728925.”
