AMERICA FIRST FEARS

- By email Harry Dobson By email

THE new drug Remdesivir helps people recover from Covid-19. So Donald Trump’s America has bought the whole production of the drug for months, and no-one else in the world – including Britain – can have it because it is patented and the drug company will sue anyone who makes it to save lives.

As Trump bellowed in his graceless inauguration speech ‘America first! America first!’.

Aren’t you looking forward to seeing how Britain’s food standards are lowered from the European level to the lower American level, with American chlorinated chicken and hormone-treated beef, and pork from pigs treated with drugs which make them grow so fast just before slaughter that they go lame because their legs can’t support them, in order to pay off the agrobusiness corporations which fund Trump’s Republican Party, as part of a post-Brexit trade deal reached by Boris Johnson with his friend Donald Trump?

IT’S disgusting that the Government blames care homes for the tens of thousands of senior folk who have died from the virus, when it’s the Government that is responsible.

This Government dumped elderly people into care homes at the start of the outbreak in order to clear hospital beds, without testing them for Covid19, and then denied PPE to care homes because it had run down the PPE stockpile by 40% as part of diverting money from the NHS to pay for tax cuts for its wealthy supporters.

Boris Johnson, who dismissed the £250,000 a year he was paid for writing a newspaper column as chickenfeed, now tries to divert blame onto minimum wage care home workers who have put their lives in danger by heroically caring for elderly people without the PPE that the Government denied them.

Just as in his private life, Boris tries to palm off responsibility for Tory actions onto others.

Just as the Government planned to rob children from poor families of their free lunches until Marcus Rashford boosted Labour’s campaign and the Government did a U-turn, and just as the Government has been forced to take much of the rail industry back into public ownership after denouncing nationalisation, and just as the Government is now running a programme of drug development which Labour proposed during the General Election but the Tories ridiculed, where Labour leads the Conservatives eventually follow.
