Minister’s farewell to parishioners
A CHURCH minister is bidding farewell after eight years serving parishioners in Widnes.
Reverend Jenny MacGregor said she is moving to Budleigh Salterton in Devon to live nearer her mother, brother and sisters.
Rev MacGregor said she had ‘enjoyed’ working alongside a range of Methodist churches in and around Widnes.
Having arrived in August 2012, her work has also included a variety of collaborations with the public sector and other organisations on projects such as suicide prevention, veterans, and asylum seekers.
Rev MacGregor also appealed for parishioners to do their bit to keep Victoria Park clean and to stay safe amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In an address to residents via the Weekly News, she said: “I have enjoyed working alongside all my Methodist Churches in Cronton, Farnworth, Halebank, Hood Manor, Penketh, Rainhill and Trinity Widnes.
“I have also had the privilege of working with Halton Borough Council with safeguarding,
Faith Forum, suicide prevention and memorial evenings; the British Legion at the Cenotaph; as a governor at Fairfield Primary School with Councillor Eddie Jones; working alongside Mary Murphy as part of the chaplaincy team for Riverside College and as trustee of Widnes Foodbank and chair of Widnes Street Pastors and recently being one of the founders of Trinity Safe Space working with vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees who need extra help.
“I have had times of sadness meeting you through funerals and health issues but lots of joyful moments with baptisms and weddings and meetings where we have tried to enable others to be cared for and respected as we all should be.
“May I thank you all for your love and support and please continue to respect this awful virus by abiding to rules and safe distancing.
“Please keep your lovely Victoria Park clean as it has been a joy to see and walk around. Continue to help each other as best as you can.
“I will hold you all in my love, prayers and I send you blessings of hope for the future.”
