Webster keen to make more special memories

-

RUNCORN Town have secured the signing of midfielder George Webster, who made five appearances for the club last season on dual registration from Widnes.

The 22-year-old has fond memories of his spell with Town last season and is looking forward to picking up where he left off.

He said: “I enjoyed the spell I had last year here, so straight away I’m looking forward to getting back playing with the lads and challenging for silverware.

“I’ve enjoyed training so far, the management team are doing an excellent job with the current situation, hats off to them.

“I enjoy the fact it’s not just running and some ball work is being used, especially after a long break I just wanted to get back playing.”

Although the start date for the league to get underway is still being discussed, the FA Cup begins in early September, so match sharpness for that is key.

Webster continued: “I think it’s a good time now to play friendlies.

“It’s a perfect way to dust down any mistakes and get that match fitness right.

“You can run all day but the fitness you earn during a game is vital. Like other lads during the break I’ve been running a few 5k’s when I can along with bike rides around Runcorn. I prefer to use both, so it switches up a bit and keeps me motivated.

“Other than that, work has been at the top of the list, it’s been a few hectic months for me.”

There is competition for places in centre midfield and Webster is keen to work hard to nail down his place in the starting XI.

“The target for me this season is just to play as many games as possible I enjoy playing as a number 10 or as a holding midfielder mostly. Within those games my goal is to push for man of the match, that way I know I’ve played well for myself as well as for the team.

“Other than ourselves, I expect the likes of Rylands and 1874 to be in with a shout for promotion. It’s a tough league though so anything can happen you have to be on your game every week.”
