Mobile tolls app gets an upgrade

-

MERSEYFLOW has updated its app for paying to cross the Mersey Gateway between Runcorn and Widnes.

A spokeswoman for the tolls firm said features have been added following driver requests and feedback, and will make it easier to avoid receiving a penalty charge notice (PCN).

Now, unregistered customers can store their bank card and vehicle information so they only have to enter their details once.

They can also set up the app to pay automatically each time they cross, and the auto-payment setting has been designed so customers ‘need never get a PCN again’.

Unregistered users can also keep their details in a profile.

The spokeswoman said storage is secure.

App users can also opt to receive either email or app notification reminders once their pre-paid credit has been spent and they have crossed again.

This is intended to give them clear notice they need to pay again for future crossings.

The app allows anyone not registered with Merseyflow to pay for as many crossings as they want in before or after crossing.

Drivers must pay the toll charge by midnight the day after their trip over the bridge.

The spokeswoman said that since the app’s launch last November, it has been downloaded more than 44,000 times and been used to pay for more than 100,000 crossings.

She said unregistered customers use the app to make more than 1,000 payments every day.

Neil Conway, Merseyflow chief executive, said: “We are delighted to bring the new app features to our non-registered customers.

“We have received some excellent feedback from the users of the quick pay app and the updates in this latest release reflect what the users want. Our primary objective is to make paying for crossings straightforward and easy – the new option to create a profile for example will save occasional bridge users time and effort when paying their toll charge.”

Mike Bennett, Mersey Gateway Crossings Board managing director, said: “Customers who are still not crossing the bridge enough to create a registered account with Merseyflow can now create an app profile instead.

“By creating a profile and opting to pay-asyou-go, non-registered customers won’t have to worry about getting a PCN. It really is that simple.”

The Merseyflow app is available to download for free on iOS and Android devices.
