Council search for caring people to aid young adults

-

HALTON Borough Council is looking for caring people in Runcorn and Widnes to take on the role of a Supported Lodgings Provider, supporting a young adult when they leave care.

The main part of being a provider is to offer practical and emotional support. The young adult living with you will require their own bedroom and they will share common spaces like the kitchen and bathroom.

The young adult will be aged between 16 and 25-years-old and may require help with tasks like budgeting and cooking. Providers are expected to attend meetings, undertake training and submit weekly records. The main goal is to offer a homelike environment and develop confidence in the young adult so they can move on to independence positively.

Halton Borough Council’s executive board member for children, young people and families, Cllr Tom McInerney, said: “Caring is at the core of this scheme. I know there will be many local people who would love to be a part of it, could it be you? Let this be the upside of spending more time at home, try something new and support a young adult in your home.”

The Supported Lodgings scheme is something people can take on to stabilise their income, with the potential to earn up to £10,000 per year.

The role of a provider is flexible and would suit compassionate people with a spare room, who are working full or part-time, working from home, or even looking for work. Assessment is swift, free training is provided and no experience is necessary.
