Break-in damages vet clinic roof

-

AN ATTEMPTED break-in at a Runcorn vets clinic left it with a “badly damaged” roof.

The RSPCA Warrington, Halton and St Helens branch said the burglary bid at its premises on Windmill Street, off Halton Road, was discovered on January 22.

Although nothing was taken, the break-in damaged the roof and left the ceiling soaked with the effects of damp.

The clinic has been shut during lockdown but usually provides vet treatments at reduced prices for residents, keeping beloved pets with their families.

Cleaning up the mess and completing the admin were expected to take hours of staff and volunteer time.

The branch spokeswoman said this will be “especially hard” when resources are “already stretched due to their limit” due to lockdown.

She said: “We don’t know why we’ve been targeted, but we’re disappointed that the community outreach of a small local charity would be hurt in this way.

“Despite this, we’d like to say thank you to the police responders, and the expert contractors who have fixed the worst of the outside damage and will be helping us restore the building.”

A Cheshire police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called on

Tuesday, January 19, following reports of an attempted break-in at a premises on Windmill Street.

“It is believed the incident occurred between January 5 to 19 .

“No entry had been gained to the premises.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML 898361 or report it via cheshire.police.uk/ro/report.”
