DRIVER CRAWLS FROM WRECK IN DITCH AFTER M’WAY CRASH
A DRIVER managed to crawl out of a badly damaged car after it overturned into a ditch on the M56 motorway.
The collision was reported to Cheshire
Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) on the eastbound carriageway between J14 Hapsford and J12 Runcorn at 3.12am on Sunday.
Three fire engines, from Frodsham, Powey Lane and Ellesmere Port, attended the scene.
CFRS said the vehicle had left the road and gone down a ditch.
The driver managed to exit the wreckage despite suffering head injuries.
A CFRS spokesperson said: “The driver selfextricated from the vehicle and was handed into the care of paramedics with head injuries.
“Crews made the scene safe and were in attendance for approximately 45 minutes.”
Cheshire police said the incident involved a BMW estate and the driver is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.
A force spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene and found that a blue BMW estate had left the carriageway and overturned in a ditch.
“The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old man from Chester, was treated at the scene by paramedics, he was then taken to Aintree Hospital as a precautionary measure. “He is not believed to have sustained any serious injuries.” A picture of the badly crumpled vehicle was tweeted by Frodsham Fire Station: “Incident on M56 for our On Call Fire Fighters.
