-

TWO thugs left a man with minor injuries after trying to rob him in some woods.

Detectives are now hunting the culprits, who struck at about 8.50pm, while the victim was walking in woodland near Halton Lodge Avenue in Runcorn.

The would-be robbers rode up on mountain bikes and demanded the man’s mobile phone and cash, then assaulted him when he refused to part with his belongings. They then rode away.

One of the pair was described as white, aged in his 20s, around 6ft 2ins tall, with a heavy build and long blond hair.

He was wearing a hooded camouflage jacket and a snood.

His accomplice was in his 20s, around 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall, with a medium build and short dark hair.

He was wearing a black Timberland jacket.

A spokesman for Cheshire police said one mountain bike was dark grey and the other was black, and both looked like they had been sprayed.

Witnesses and anyone with any information is urged to contact the police.

Detective Constable Nathaniel Walkowiak said: “The victim in this attack not only managed to keep his possessions but also managed to defend himself while sustaining minor injuries but the outcome could have been a lot worse.

“A number of enquiries have been ongoing in the local area and as part of these we are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may remember spotting the offenders in the area around the time of the offence.

“The same goes to anyone who may have captured dashcam or CCTV footage of the two men on mountain bikes around the time of the incident.”
