Duo walk a nation from castle to castle as fundraiser
A CARING duo has embarked on a monumental mission to raise funds for Home Instead Charities, a foundation that funds activities and groups for ageing adults.
Tom Pennington, 28 from Runcorn and Matt Poulaud, 26 from Warrington are walking from Conwy Castle to Cardiff Castle.
Tom and Matt will be hiking across mountains, through valleys and navigating around towns.
Over the five days, they will walk from Conwy Castle to Bala; on to Clywedog; there to Caer
Berris; on to Pontsticill Reservoir; and the last leg on to Cardiff Castle.
The money raised will be donated to Home Instead Charities, a foundation which provides grants to local community initiatives, enabling activities and support for older people, including local dementia cafes, day trips and interactive activities.
Tom, Home Instead Leigh franchise owner, said: “From my service within the Armed Forces I have gained many skills that will keep Matt and I on-track and on course to complete our challenge.
We will be completing the challenge with nothing but the kit on our back, bivvying and getting up at first light to give us enough hours of sunlight each day to reach our next destination.’’
Tom added: “During the five days, I will be posting updates on our Facebook page, as well as live videos. If you’d like to have insight into our challenge, visit Home Instead Leigh.
‘‘We have been overwhelmed reading about how our communities are helping each other during these difficult times. We want you to share and shout about what you are doing for your neighbourhoods.’’
Matt, software support analyst for Home Instead’s national office in Warrington, said: “Tom and I have been going on practice walks to get us ready for the challenge.
“Despite being thrown in at the deep end due to not having much experience with walking long distances, I am really looking forward to doing this in support of Home Instead Charities. We really hope we can surpass our goal of £1,500.”
