Visitors’ lead whittled away by under 16s

THE Wild Academy Under 16 team beat Sutton Under 16s 4-1 in a league game at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

Sutton took the lead after just 65 seconds of the game but Widnes hit back with a goal from Cody Ogden on 13 minutes and the score remained 1-1 at the first period break.

Second period goals from Jaxon Kirk-Jones and Liam Yarwood put Widnes into the lead and a third period strike from Harrison Lightfoot rounded off the scoring for a 4-1 victory.

● The Wild Academy Under 14 team beat Sutton Under 14s 6-5 in a highly entertaini­ng challenge game at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

Sutton took the lead after just 34 seconds of the game and went 0-2 up on 3 minutes but goals from Aidan Lamb and Jared Knowles saw Widnes draw level.

Two more goals late in the period gave the visitors a clear lead heading into the first break and they went 2-5 up with a further goal in the 22nd minute.

The Wild youngsters upped their game after this and Aidan Lamb pulled a goal back within 60 seconds. A hat-trick goal for Lamb with just 40 seconds left in the period brought the score to 4-5.

Two more unanswered goals – a fourth for Lamb and a second for Knowles – propelled the Wild into the lead in the third period and they held on for a 6-5 win.

● The Wild Academy Under 18 team play their last game of the season on Saturday 9th April when they take on Nottingham Under 18s at Planet Ice Widnes – 5pm face off. ● The Academy Under 14s and Under 16s are both away at the Lammas Road rink in Sutton on Saturday for league games – 2.10pm and 4.10 face offs respective­ly
