Howard’s finish secures place in last four of Cup

ON Monday 11th April in the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League William Saxon Cup at the Ball, Mike Howard (18 darts) progressed to the last four with a 2-0 win

MILL BROW SC V SIMM’S CROSS INST. A

PAUL Goulden (180) scored the first point for the Stute despite an 18 dart leg from Mike Callaghan. The hosts responded by winning the next two games through Peter Fisher (18 darts & 106 finish) and Brian Spruce. Glen Owen & Andy Abbott levelled the tie before the away team regained the advantage with a win from Ray & Brian Dutton. Brian Spruce & Craig Winstanley (180) squared the match in the next including a 12 dart leg. The Brow led again after Dave Powell took the next only for Brian Dutton (180) in taking the match to a deciding game. After going leg and leg in the last it was Glen Owen who won the points and the match for the Stute.

MILLFIELD AT HOME TO WIDNES BOWLING CLUB B

THE Bowler started off in great style. Wins from Terry Roach (15 darts), with Gaz Bason (17 darts) in defeat, Kev Garcia (18 darts with 2 x 180s) and Robbie Gorst (16 & 17 darts) in the singles followed by John Bowles & Kev Garcia (19 darts) in the first of the pairs put the away side four up. Mike Howard & Tony Jackson got the home side on the score sheet with Robbie Gorst & Terry Roach (19 darts) in defeat. Alan Magee & Joe Price secured the points in the next before Tony Jackson got a consolatio­n for the Milly. The Bowler closed out the match with wins from Danny Magee and John Bowles.

SIMM’S CROSS INST. B V HAMMER & PINCERS

THE Hammer got off to a great start with wins from Andrew Ellis and Robert Lea before the Stute got on to the score sheet with a win from Andrew McCaffery. The two game lead was restored after the opening pairs win from Keith Glover & Chris Ellis. It was soon all square after the home team bagged the final two pairs, the wins coming from Andrew McCaffery & James Jeffers and Ian Woodward & Danny Hamlet. Keith Glover (14 darts & 180) put the Hammer within a point of their first victory of the season. However, this was not to be as James Jeffers and Danny Hamlet won the last two legs to give the win and points to the Stute.

WIDNES BOWLING CLUB A V BALL A

THE Ball raced into a four leg lead with wins from Rob Gatcliffe, Karl Whitfield, Lol Fonterigo with Mark Smith (19 darts) in defeat and the opening pair of Karl Whitfield & Karl Windisch (15 darts & 154 finish from Karl Windisch). The Bowler hit back by taking the next two, Rob Magee & Mathew Drury (17 darts) and Dave Gerrard & Mark Smith doing the honours. The points were secured in the next with a win from Ged Kilburn. Rob Magee for the home side won the next despite an 18 dart leg including a maximum from Martin Ball. Karl Windisch won the last for the Ball who took the match by six legs to three.
