No further action after girl hit by car

ARSONISTS have damaged Runcorn’s dry ski slope after setting fire to a pile of wood.

Firefighte­rs were called to Stockham Lane at 7.52pm on Monday, June 13.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said a “large quantity of wood” had been ignited, also damaging the matting of the slope.

The incident was the latest in a string of blazes in east Runcorn.

Firefighte­rs were in action on Stockham Lane the previous evening, also to douse out a pile of wood at 9.22pm.

Anyone with any informatio­n about the fire on the ski slope is urged to contact Cheshire police.

A CFRS spokespers­on said: “A fire on opened ground at the top of a ski slope in Runcorn was extinguish­ed by firefighte­rs using a hose reel.

“The fire involved a large quantity of wood and affected matting from the ski slope.

“Police were informed of the incident as this fire was suspected as being deliberate­ly set.

“If anyone knows anything about who may have started it they should call Cheshire police on 101 or Crimestopp­ers anonymousl­y on 0800 555 111.”

NO FURTHER action will be taken after a girl was seriously injured in a collision while walking in Widnes.

The pedestrian was hit by a car on Milton Road at around 12.40pm on Wednesday, June 1.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the route was shut while paramedics tended to the casualty and police carried out an investigat­ion.

A North West Ambulance Service spokespers­on said the girl was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

A Cheshire Constabula­ry spokesman said that having reviewed the evidence, no offence was deemed to have taken place.

He said: “Having reviewed all of the evidence, including witness statements and CCTV footage, it has been found that no offences occurred and no further action will be taken.”
