RICHARD Haggar’s first signing for the Wild roster ahead of the new 2022/23 NIHL season is experienced netminder Miles Finney.

Finney was part of the Sheffield

Steeldogs team that finished third in the NIHL National

Division league last season and went on to win the Play Offs – and also the Spring series lockdown cup the year before.

Miles played junior hockey at Nottingham and has also had seasons with the Nottingham Lions and Sutton Sting in NIHL North Division 1 He has also played inline hockey for many years, accruing several national and European titles and making numerous appearances at international level.

Speaking about his move to Widnes for the new season, Finney said: “I’m really looking forward to getting the show on the road with the boys!

“Knowing Richard for over 10 years it builds confidence.

“He’s a coach I can trust and seeing what he did last year with the Wild for their first year in the Moralee Division, I think was a successful year and I am hoping it’s something I can help with and build on the success going into this season.”

Talking about the signing of Miles Finney, Wild player coach Richard Haggar said:

“Miles is someone I’ve known for a long time.

“He is a one of a kind goalie and having the opportunity to bring a player of his stature in was one I couldn’t turn down.

“With his experience at National Division level, he will continue to help Widnes grow from strength to strength.

“He is also a character in the dressing room and will certainly add to a great bunch we have.”
