Family fun on offer at hospice festival

THREE thugs pushed a woman to the ground and stole cash from her during a street robbery that left her “extremely shaken”.

Detectives said the victim, 56, was walking on Whitchurch Way in Halton Lodge, Runcorn, at about 11.40pm on Thursday, June 9, when the muggers approached.

One robber grabbed two bags she was carrying and she was pushed. The woman fell to the ground, suffering minor injuries.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoma­n said the muggers fled towards Grangeway with the bags.

Cash was stolen as a result of the incident. All three robbers were described as in their late teens or early 20s, slim and wearing dark clothes.

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any informatio­n or who might have witnessed the robbery is urged to contact the police.

Halton Haven Hospice have partnered with local social space The Barnyards in Widnes to organise the festival.

Halton Haven provides specialist care, completely free of charge, to people of Halton and surroundin­g areas who are living with end of life or life-limiting conditions.

Community fundraiser Tina Gill said: “We are thrilled to be working with The Barnyards to host Haven Festival for the community to come, enjoy and support the incredible work of the hospice.

“With free entry it will certainly be something you won’t want to miss! There are some amazing musicians confirmed, stalls with all you could reassure the community that we are doing all we can to find those responsibl­e and bring them to justice.

“As part of our enquiries, we are appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have seen something that didn’t ask for on offer and delicious food and drink to get stuck in to.”

With less than half of the hospice’s £2.3m annual running costs coming from government funding, they are hugely reliant on the support of the community to stay open and continue caring for local people who need this specialist care.

Each year it costs £2.3 million to run Halton Haven which means £6,301 is needed every day to keep the hospice open.
