Raise a glass as castle puts on beer festival

-

HALTON Castle in Runcorn is to host a beer festival this summer with event organisers expecting to welcome more than 1,000 visitors over three days.

Thirty real ales on tap will be on offer, all brewed within 30 miles of the 11th century heritage site, alongside cocktails, lagers, wines and spirits plus food grill and stalls.

Entertainment is to be provided in the form of live music, a pub quiz, as well as games and crafts and DJs playing hits from the 1970s through to the 1990s as the evenings draw to a close in the “unforgettable setting”.

Tickets start at £8.

The festival, which is taking place from Friday, July 8, to Sunday, July 10, is being organised as a joint event by Halton Castle pub and the Halton branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

Visitors are advised to access the site by public transport as there is “no parking” at the festival site.

The event website advises that bus passengers can walk up to the castle in eight minutes from Halton Lea North bus stop at Shopping City, or make use of a designated pick-up and drop-off area for vehicles and taxis at the top of Castle Road.

Halton Castle Beer Festival is open to children as the event is intended to be “family friendly” but they must be supervised at all times.

Admission is free for under-eights. Discounts are available for members of the Halton Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA), which is organising the event A Halton Castle Beer Festival spokesperson said: “Access inside the castle grounds will be permitted throughout the event so guests can soak in the panoramic views across eight counties while learning about the Castle’s fascinating history that dates back to the 11th century.

“Over 1,000 festival goers are expected across the weekend, so why not take the opportunity to support local breweries and come and enjoy a beer with us this July.”
