Fundraisers tackle Atlas mountains to help hospice

-

A HOSPICE providing specialist care, completely free of charge, to people of Halton and surrounding areas who are living with end of life or life-limiting conditions has organised their first ever overseas trek to help raise vital funds.

The trek organised by Halton Haven Hospice has been planned for September 2023 and the once in a lifetime challenge will see volunteers trek to the summit of North Africa’s highest peak, standing at 4,167m in the Atlas Mountains.

You can join Halton Haven Hospice on an incredible three day Mount Toubkal Trek - the route is a mixture of rocky and sandy paths, passing traditional Berber villages, grassy meadows, isolated patches of snow and flowing rivers.

The final ascent starts before sunrise, and you will follow a route to the top of North Africa where you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views to the east and west over the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains.

To the south, the Sahara stretches out below and to the north the plains of Morocco. The journey ends in the wonderful city of Marrakesh.

Tina Gill, community fundraiser at Halton Haven Hospice who is also taking on this challenge, said: “It is amazing to see the Haven launch our first ever overseas trek and what a spectacular one!

“If you want to take on an amazing challenge and make a difference at your local hospice join Team Haven and Trek Morocco.”

“This action-packed trip will immerse you in true Moroccan culture, from the sights of Marrakech and it’s bustling souks, to the spectacular mountain scenery while you summit Mount Toubkal and raise vital funds for Halton Haven at the same time.”

The fundraising team are hosting an information event on Wednesday, July 27 in the Community Cabin on the hospice grounds and are encouraging those interested to get in touch.
