51-year-old man’s body found in canal

THE body of a man was found in a canal in Runcorn.

Police were called to Bridgewater Canal, near Canal Street, at about 7.30am on Sunday, November 13, after reports of a body being spotted in the water.

Officers quickly taped off a section of towpath after making the discovery.

The 51-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will now take place to find out the cause of death.

Police have confirmed that the death is not believe to be suspicious. A case file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson for Cheshire police said: “At around 7.30am on Sunday 13 November, police were called to reports of a body in the Bridgewater Canal, near Canal Street, Runcorn. Officers attended the scene and the body of a 51-year-old man in the water.

“The death is not believed to be suspicious, and a case file will be prepared for the coroner.”
