WIDNES BOWLING CLUB 501 LEAGUE ROUND 3 WIDNES BOWLING CLUB A AT HOME TO MILLFIELD

The Milly made a great start and swept the opening singles with wins from Gaz Bason, Keith Horabin and Adam Mellor. Rob Magee & Matt Drury got the Bowler on the scoreboard but with wins from Adam Mellor & Gaz Bason and Michael Howard & Keith Horabin (129 finish), the visitors wrapped up the points. Joe Batty added another game for the home team but the Milly finished strongly and bagged the remaining two matchups through Ian Wall and Tony Jackson.

SIMM’S CROSS INST. A AT HOME TO SIMM’S CROSS INST. B

The local derby started with a point for the A through Paul Batty but the B responded with wins from Carl Bryan and Simon Bissett. Glen Owen & Paul Batty levelled the match and the A went ahead with wins from Dave Garner & Bri Dutton and Tony Green & Dave Evans. Just needing one for victory, Dave Garner (145 finish) secured the win before Glen Owen and Bri Dutton (15 darts & 100 finish) finished the match in style for the current league leaders.

BALL AT HOME TO WIDNES BOWLING CLUB B

The Bowler started brightly and they swept the opening singles with wins from Neil Ward, Terry Roach and Robbie Gorst (16 darts & 180). Karl Whitfield & Anthony Hall (180) put the Ball on the scoreboard but with wins from John Bowles & Kev Garcia (16 darts) and Terry Roach & Robbie Gorst the visitors secured the points. Kev Garcia (15 darts) added another for the Bowler before Karl Windisch replied for the hosts. Jono Teeling took the last for the away team in a comfortabl­e win for the Bowler B.

HOUGH GREEN SC AT HOME TO MILL BROW SC

Mill Brow, the reigning champions, put up another polished display as they won the contest without reply. Peter Fisher, Mike Callaghan (17 darts & 180) and Craig Winstanley swept the opening singles. Brian Spruce & Mark Jones (180), Dave Powell & Dan Glynn and John Dermody & Paul Linger (102 finish) took the pairs before Mark Jones, Dan Glynn and Brian Spruce completed the job in an easy win.

Hough Green SC at home to Ball The Ball were first on the scoreboard with a point from Scott Devany but Derek Turton replied for the hosts. Anthony Hall regained the advantage and returned in the pairs with Martin Ball (15 darts) to stretch the lead to two. Rob Shields & Adam Foster cut the deficit but the Ball struck again through Karl Whitfield & Tracey Heeps to see the visitors two up with three to play. Hough Green rallied and with wins from Keith Glover and Duane Lawton the match was on a knife edge. Martin Ball (17 darts) came up with the goods as the Ball took the points.

MILLFIELD B AT HOME TO MILLFIELD A

In the Milly derby match it was the A team who struck first with wins from Kev Skitt and Keith Horabin. Tony Jackson prevented a clean sweep of the opening singles but Danny Wood & Kev Skitt (17 darts) increased the A team’s lead. Adam Mellor & Ian Wall and Joe & Jack Kelly brought the scores level and Joe Kelly gave the Milly B their first lead. Danny Wood brought the scores level and it was Michael Howard with a win in the decider that gave the Millfield B the points.

MILL BROW SC AT HOME TO WIDNES BOWLING CLUB A

John Bennett gave the visitors an early lead before Mark Jones levelled the scores.

Chris Booth (12 darts) restored the Bowler’s lead but with a clean sweep of the pairs the Brow were within a point of victory. Mark Jones & Kev Helps and Paul Linger & Cody Davies won the first two pairs but with facing an under strength Bowler team Ray Linger & Dan Glynn claimed the final pairs.

Ray Linger got his team over the inishing line before Alex McGill grabbed a consolatio­n. With fielding only five players, the Bowler conceded the last to Cody Davies and the winning Mill Brow outfit.

SIMM’S CROSS INST. AT HOME TO WIDNES CRICKET CLUB

The Cricket Club hit the ground running and they opened up a two game lead with wins from Kev Baxter and Carl Bryan.

Ray Dutton got the first point for the Stute and the run continued as the hosts swept the pairs through Tony Green & Dave Evans, Bri & Ray Dutton and Glen Owen & Dave Batty. Mike Parr kept the tie alive before Bri Dutton made it five for the Stute and team mate Mick Hunt added the last to keep the winners flying high in the table.

WIDNES BOWLING CLUB B AT HOME TO CRICKETER’S ARMS

Robbie Gorst (19 darts) and Neil Ward put the Bowler ahead before Leggies drew level through Graham Fenney and the opening pair of Kevin Langford & Dave Gerrard.

The hosts regained the lead through John Bowles & Kenny Murphy and a point from Robbie Gorst & Jono Teeling (19 darts) put the winning post in sight. Paul Mason pulled one back for the visitors but with a win in the penultimat­e leg from Kenny Murphy the points were secured for the home team. Jono Teeling added the last for the Bowler in a hard fought victory.
