WASTE NOT, WANT NOT
I was enjoying a pint after a big-city half marathon when a woman came into the pub, offering everyone a free finisher’s T-shirt. It turned out she had nothing to do with the race but seeing all the leftovers being binned, and appalled by the waste, she’d filled her car with the discarded T-shirts, bananas and bottled water. It raises questions about the policies of companies dealing with the various kinds of surplus big races inevitably produce. Phil Box, Bude, Cornwall
