This tread­mill drill from run­ning coach Ken Mierke (evo­lu­tion­run­ will help pre­vent over­strid­ing. ‘When you’re run­ning in place, you can’t land with your foot in front of you,’ he says. With the belt switched off, run on the spot. Con­tin­u­ing to run, switch the tread­mill on to a very slow speed. Ev­ery 20 sec­onds or so, speed it up a frac­tion. This gives you a sense of what land­ing be­neath your­self feels like, says Mierke. No tread­mill? Al­ter­nat­ing be­tween run­ning on the spot and slowly mov­ing for­ward of­fers a sim­i­lar learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence.
