SARAH MILNE Virtually running to Florida
Sarah Milne, from Croydon, is 614 miles into a 4,530-mile virtual run from Gatwick Airport in London to Orlando Airport, Florida. She took on the challenge to raise funds for, and show her gratitude to, Caudwell Children, a charity that offers holidays to Disney World, Florida, to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Sarah’s son, William, 12, was born with intestinal failure. He’s undergone over 50 operations, including a multi-organ transplant, after which he developed a potentially fatal complication called GVHD. That was when Sarah applied for Caudwell’s Destination Dreams holiday. She, William and his sister, Hope, made the trip last December.
Sarah, 46, came up with her Project Gatwick to Florida idea on the plane home. She runs races or just around the block to make up the miles. ‘My plan is to finish the journey by December 2018, when I hope to make the trip to Florida as a volunteer,’ she says. justgiving. com/ fundraising/ runningfromgatwicktoflorida
LUKE BREMMER Enthusiastic medal collector
Luke Bremmer (49) started running back in 2005 to help him adopt a healthier lifestyle. ‘My first race was a local 3km fun run,’ he says. ‘I enjoyed it so much I set myself the goal of collecting 100 medals.’
Luke, from Derby, decided to also raise funds and awareness for charities. He joined Shelton Striders, his local running club, and then began taking part in events around the East Midlands. In January this year he celebrated reaching his 100-medal milestone. ‘I am now working towards 200,’ he says. ‘It’s such a fun way to do something positive and support good causes.’
