When is the best time to strength-train?

-

Strength training should be timed so it doesn't compromise your running sessions. Strength-train the day before a hard session and it will affect your ability to run well, and increase your injury risk. Keep strength work as far as possible from your next interval session. It’s a difficult balance as it is likely to be best placed the day after your previous interval session. You’ll need to listen to your body and not push through an exercise if your muscles are sore. Core work can be topped up more often to help you maintain good running form. Jo Pavey is a five- time UK Olympian and former European 10,000m champion
