Running on empty could be good for you. In a new study2, a low-intensity workout following an overnight fast increased the amount of energy derived from body fat compared with a postbrekki­e run. ‘Exercise in a fasted state might provoke more favourable changes in adipose tissue,’ says study author Dylan Thompson, from the University of Bath.
