It’s a bumper month for obstacle races. Here’s our pick of the best

Wolf Run – Autumn Wolf

There are now four Wolf Run events every year, one for each season. This woodland 10K is a cross between an obstacle race and a cross-country event. The obstacles will certainly keep you busy – think tree stumps to hurdle, streams to splash through and mud slicks to negotiate. Wear your oldest, least-loved kit… Leamington Spa, Warkwickshire, September 2 and 3, thewolfrun.com

Welsh Warrior

On the 5K course: quarter pipes, water slides, A-frames, cargo nets, swamps and much more. In the event village: food stalls, artisan coffee bar, drinks bar (yes that means booze), inflatable larks and music playing throughout the day. Vibe: chilled family fun. Rat Race Man vs Mountain

As if tackling numerous man-made and natural obstacles over a 20-mile course weren’t enough, those sadists over at Rat Race HQ have decided that all this should be done on a tricky technical trail route that involves plenty of climbing, some jumping and even a little swimming. Inflatable 5K

A 5K race with 10 giant inflatable obstacles might sound like one for the kids, but we reckon it’s also a great way for the adults to get in some core strength and stability training – it’s not as easy as it sounds.
