Cut Your Injury Risk Instantly!
Avoid injury with a silent approach
Land quietly to protect your joints – and run faster
IF YOU WANT to reduce your injury risk, listen to your feet (though not literally). That’s the finding of a study in the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy. Runners were shown the decibel reading relating to the loudness of their foot strike while they ran on a treadmill for 15 minutes. They were then challenged to make their landings quieter. Loading rate and vertical impact peak (measures of the magnitude of impact) both dropped significantly. And most importantly, the changes were maintained when the runners ventured outside for a training session.
