‘On a hot summer’s evening, a 10K that ran out of water for all but the fastest runners!’ – Emily Coltman ‘Gainsborough & Morton 10K last year – only 5 portable loos for all runners and spectators. The queue was nearly an hour long; I only just made the start and there were still a lot of people behind me in the queue.’ – Bill Brown ‘Milton Keynes 10K… We all had to run through a flooded underpass – the water was freezing and over ankle-deep. High knees, anyone?’ – Melanie Whitton ‘English Half Marathon last year. Someone didn’t let the traffic control guys know we’d started and about a mile in we had to duck under or jump over barrier tape!’ – Nick Bartley ‘Madrid Marathon… banana skins all over the wet floor at the drink stations.’ – Danielle Gray ‘2016 Manchester Marathon – took longer to reclaim bags than run the race. Total disaster.’ – Mark Haggart ‘Brighton Marathon, 2016. No water between miles 18-21. Devastated and underhydrated!’ – Natasha Potter ‘Horses and their riders on a narrow track, so we all had to turn around and restart!’ – Lucy Stevens ‘The Sheffield Half Marathon a few years back. Everyone’s at the start line – 5,000 to 8,000 people – then the organisers realise they’ve not got water on the course, so cancel the event just before the start!’ – Andy Smith ‘On a trail run, a ‘helpful’ local removed all the arrows and we ended up running several kilometres more than we’d intended.’ – Julie Watts
