Have your say
Last week’s front page story about damage at Westburn Cemetery got you talking.
We told how visitors going to tend relatives graves on August 10 found gravestones had been overturned, and the heartbreaking scene left many people upset.
South Lanarkshire Council now saw the damage was caused by the wind.
Here’s what you had to say:
When we asked what could be done to prevent damage that could be caused by vandals in future, following previous incidents, we had some suggestions.
“They should never have taken the caretakers away “- Rose Mackey (via Facebook).
“I am aware that some people in the community are helping to lift the headstones. If this is happening regularly I would suggest a CCTV camera. Also this is the effect of a cause. This could be lack of youth facilities in the area. Is there enough community engagement with the youth in this area? Another way of dealing with it is for the police to go into the local schools on assembly days (primary and secondary) and raise awareness. A juvenile Crimestoppers could also be an idea - call a number anonymously if they see anything in future?“- Michelle Farmer (via Facebook).
