War play is coming totown Hall

- Jonathan Geddes

A new play looking at soldiers, football and heroes will be coming to Rutherglen Town Hall this October.

On Wednesday , October 8, Gazebo Theatre present Hallowed Turf, where a young man’s dream of becoming a footballer is brought into reality, when he meets his hero on a very different front line.

This powerful and heartbreaking new play shares the true story of footballing star Walter Tull, the first black combat officer to serve in the British army in the First World War and is told through the imagined letters of a young unknown soldier.

Featuring Oraine Johnson ( The Tin Violin, Sorry! No Coloureds, No Irish, No Dogs) and Kaine Barr (BBC Doctors, Waterloo Road), this is an incredible story of new ground broken, bravery, friendship and the true horrors of life in the trenches from the pen of Pamela Cole- Hudson, the writer and director of Sorry! No Coloureds, No Irish, No Dogs.

It will start at 7.30pm and tickets are £ 12 or £ 11 for concessions booked through http:// www. sllcboxoffice. co.uk
