A Cambuslang choir who have raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity is getting ready for the new session.

The Cambus Singers, who celebrated their 25th birthday last September - has been a tremendous local success story over the decades.

The whole purpose of the choir is to give ladies the chance to enjoying singing together, whilst raising money for charity at their concerts, and so far they have raised over £55,000.

Choir mistress Margaret Pringle, formerly a teacher at West Coats Primary School, explained: “We have been going strong for over 25 years now.

“I had a junior choir with West Coats and when it was disbanded some of the girls and ladies from the old St Paul’s Church, which was joining with Trinity at the time, decided we could get together and form a ladies’ choir.

“It’s all just gone on from there. With many bookings already in our diary it looks as if it’s going to be a very busy session.”

She added: “We do two concerts of our own, one at Christmas and another in the spring, and we give the money we raise from these to charity.

“The money we raise at Christmas always goes to the very worthwhile CHAS ( the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland) .”

The Cambus Singers renew their rehearsals on Tuesday, September 2, at 7pm in West Coats Primary School, Cambuslang.

And the ladies are currently on the lookout for new singers who may wish to join them.

Mrs Pringle continued: “We are looking for new members so if you enjoy singing, why not come along to our first rehearsal and see if you would like to join us? You will be made very welcome.

“The ability to read music is helpful but not a necessity.”

Anyone who would like further details of the choir should phone Margaret on 0141 641 1835.
