Raising pounds while losing the pounds
Group collects £605 for charity
Slimmers from Rutherglen and Cambuslang have raised hundreds of pounds for a great cause.
They recently held their own Race for Life event to raise money for Cancer Research UK, and collected a fantastic £605.
Members of the Slimming World groups at the Sun Inn in Halfway, Burnside and Cambuslang descended on Cambuslang Park, while their counterparts from the Beechwood, King’s Park and Rutherglen groups held their own race in Overtoun Park.
The groups were taking part in the weightloss organisation’s annual charity fundraiser, which this year backed Cancer Research.
Members walked distances which they set for themselves, to raise money for the tremendous cause.
Mari Guthrie, the leader of the Sun Inn and Burnside clubs, said: “Following on from our fabulous Race for Life , our Burnside, Cambuslang and Halfway groups made a fantastic donation of £605 to Cancer Research.
“Now an annual event, our 30 slimmers, all wearing pink, including men, turned up at Cambuslang Public Park to raise awareness for the charity.
“The day started with some body magic a fun filled warm up session with some Zumba moves followed by as many circuits of the park as they could manage!
“I was pleased to see the numbers and donation had grown from last year, and we hope to build on this success for next year.
“Everyone had such a great time and it shows the friendship and support between members and groups. Groups run in the Burnside Hotel on Wednesday evenings, Sun Inn on Tuesdays and on Mondays in the Baptist Church, Cambuslang.”
