Mum’s the word

Ashley’s amazing success

- Kenny Smith

A Castlemilk mum is doing her bit for charity by losing weight - and her beautiful long hair!

Ashley McCafferty (27) joined the Weight Watchers group which meets in the Beechwood, King’s Park, in October last year, when she discovered she was heavier than she had been after having both her children. Her weight had gone up to 13 stone, 11-and-a-half pounds, and she decided that the time was right to sort it out.

And in the space of just six months, she achieved her target weight of nine stone 12lbs, with fantastic weight loss of four stone, one-and-a-half pounds.

Ashley, who works in the Beechwood as a chargehand, said: “Last year I was a student, and was working different shifts, and being a mum as well, it’s very easy to get into bad habits with your eating.

“I weighed more than I did after I had my kids, and I think it was when I was at my heaviest I decided to do something about it.

“I was finding things really hard because of my weight - I was constantly tired and lacking energy, my confidence was low, and I couldn’t fit into any of my clothes.

“At first, I thought it wasn’t going to work, but I went with the ProPoints system and in my first four weeks, I lost one stone, two-and-a-half pounds.

“When I saw I’d got such good results, it made me even more determined to do well. I was doing it for myself, and my kids, but no one else. And I knew it would be worth it if I kept going.”

Having lost over four stone, Ashley enjoys an active social life, and found because of her weight she was being left behind as she was knocking back nights out, having felt so uncomfortable.

She reached her goal weight in April this year, and has continued with Weight Watchers, as she is able to fully enjoy her children, job and her lifestyle a lot more, now she has the energy. She makes healthy choices using Weight Watchers ProPoints plan, makes sure she attends her fitness classes every week.

Even now that she is goal, Ashley still makes it along to her weekly meetings to make sure her weight is under control.

Leader Lynda Kadegis said: “As a leader, I am so very proud of her. I’m glad she walked into my meeting last October.”

Ashley added: “Lots of people I hadn’t seen in a while have said what a difference in me, as they’ve been following me on Facebook, but not seen the change in person.

“People are now saying to me that I’ve been inspiring them, which is a really great feeling.”
