Church to host independence referendum debate
The Scottish independence referendum debate is coming to local churches later this month.
Local church members are invited to go along to a special evening, entitled Scotland’s Future Environment: What do Our Churches Say?
A local church spokesman said:“We all want Scotland’s future to be a good one but what constitutes ‘good’ regarding the environment?”
Trevor Jamison, environmental chaplain for Eco Congregation Scotland asks how churches might make a useful contribution.
This will take place on Sunday, September 14, at 2.30pm in Rutherglen United Reformed Church, on Johnstone Drive.
Before Scotland decides on September 18, in preparation, the churches of Rutherglen are opening their buildings for a time of prayer and reflection from 7-8pm on Thursday September 11.
The spokesman continued: “Members of the public are invited to drop in to pray and reflect quietly as we pray for our nation.
“You can come for a couple of minutes or use the whole hour. There will not be a service but rather we want to provide space away from the campaign where we can come to God and pray for the nation.
“This is open to all in the belief that whether you intend to vote yes or no or are still undecided our shared interest is the good of Scotland.”
