Club add two as duo are released

-

Cambuslang Rangers have added to their squad, after releasing a couple of players.

The side have no fixture this Saturday, so will have a training session, to allow their new signings to bed in.

Cambuslang have snapped up goalkeeper Andy Finnigan as well as expreienced striker Gordon Herd, who has left Linlithgow Rose after 10 years.

Andy had been playing with amatuer side Blantyre Rangers until they folded, but spent the recent league cup section between the sticks for Irvine Meadow.

Keeper Paul Smith and forward Chris Faulds have both been released.

Co- manager Paddy Flannery said: “Andy is a fairly young goalkeeper but he’s got bags of experience.

“Him and Jonny (Grier) can battle it out for the number one jersey.

“Gordon maybe just needs to work on his fitness a wee bit because he didn’t get a proper pre-season.

“He’s pacy, the ball sticks to him and he can score goals, so he’s basically an all rounder.

“We’re just waiting for him to hit full fitness.”

Cambuslang have arranged a friendly tonight (Wednesday) against Ashvale Victoria at 6.45pm.

Paddy continued: “We want to get the boys who didn’t play on Saturday another 90 minutes under their belt as they could do with some game time.

“Nothing is scheduled for Saturday now so we’re going to have a training session in the morning, and it will give John ( Doyle) and myself the chance to take a look at someone in the afternoon.

“We want to keep an eye on our league rivals.

“It’s a bit early to say who will be the biggest threat. I think by the time there’s half - a- dozen games played, we’ll have a better idea of who’s going to be putting in a challenge.

“The most important thing for us is to focus on ourselves and concentrate on our own results.

“We will give every team the respect they are due, as I think it’s going to be a very interesting season.”
