Comedy festival is set to return to Hamilton

- Shirley Bartynek

Fans of comedy will be able to head to Hamilton this October for the town’s own festival.

Following a taster event last year, Hamilton’s comedy festival returns bigger, better and with more belly laughs.

Ha-Ha Hamilton will run in venues across the town from October 17 to 26 and features something for everyone – from comedy legends and upand-coming stand-ups to children’s comedy shows and cinema.

Barry McDonald, one of the event organisers, said: “This year’s HaHa Hamilton is bigger and better than last year, with events running over 10 days.

“We’ve tried hard to plan events specifically with Hamilton in mind. Therefore, we have something for everyone – from kids’ comedy shows, films and up-and-coming stand-ups to the cream of the Scottish comedy circuit, British comedy legends and a Funny Girls comedy night.

“We hope everyone in Hamilton and beyond gets behind this festival and see it grow each year into something the town can be very proud of.”

Two of the biggest names in British comedy history – Bobby Davro and Roy Walker – will perform at The Town House with their Legends of Laughter show and take to the stage on Saturday, October 24.

From New Faces to Catchphrase, Irishman Roy Walker is a comedy and television legend.

Still giving younger stand-ups a run for their money, he has starred in everything from The Comedians and Phoenix Nights to the Chris Moyles Radio One Breakfast Show and hit Edinburgh Fringe shows.

Comedian, impressionist and actor Bobby Davro is a man of many talents. He soared to fame in the 1980s with his TV shows such as Bobby Davro on the Box and Bobby’s Sketch Pad.

He also starred in Eastenders as loveable rogue Vinnie Monks as well as appearing on Dancing on Ice and Splash.

Other acts set to perform at the festival include Motherwell’s Tam Cowan, Des Clarke, Mark Dolan, Hardeep Singh Kohli, Billy Kirkwood, Viv Gee, Iain Stirling and loads more.

There’s something for everyone and children can get in on the act by checking out the kids’ comedy show during the festival .
