Rovers deny the Spiders
Frustration for Queen’s Park as Albion Rovers deny them of a deserved draw
Queen’s Park boss Gus MacPherson said his side deserved at least a draw in the Spiders’ narrow 1- 0 defeat to Albion Rovers on Saturday.
Queen’s Park had came off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Rangers in the Scottish League Cup, with Queen’s drawing praise for their spirited performance.
Gus was hoping to take that momentum in to the game against Rovers at Cliftonhill, but was left disappointed as a wonder strike from McKenzie on 80 minutes gave the home side all three points.
Speaking to the Reformer, Gus said: “It was a poor game and we were frustrated. We knew it would be a difficult game for us after the exertions of the Tuesday night.
“It was a little bit flat. We didn’t deserve to lose the game, a draw would have been a fair result. It was a quality strike from distance that beat us. We hit the wood work twice and had a couple of half chances.
“It was one of those game where since we came off a massive high and got all the plaudit for our performance against Rangers, we just never got to the levels we did against Rangers.
“We were in control and they didn’t really look dangerous in the second half. Our keeper had one save to make and we were very comfortable. It looked as if it was going to be 0-0 or that it would have taken something special to win the game and that’s what happened.”
The international break means there will be no game for QP this weekend and Gus will take the opportunity to oversea the under-20s in a bounce game and hold extra training sessions.
“The under-20s have a bounce game on Friday and a few of the senior boys will play in that as well. There’s an aspect of the training side of it that we’ll have a look at.
“If you look at the games we’ve lost, it’s been very fine margins. I don’t think we’re too far away from getting the right results.”
